Music And Me, And My New Headphones

Philips citiscape headphones IMG_8616 IMG_8620
I don't talk about it anywhere near as much as I should, but music is a huge part of my life. My boyfriend is a musician, producer and performer and I live in a house full of music students. I grew up immersed in an eclectic mix of my parent's music tastes, starting my musical education at a very young aged somewhere in between The Clash, The Eagles and Steely Dan. I started playing the piano at age 7 and singing long before that, and have done both ever since, and learned the clarinet and ukulele along the way. I'm a fairly adequate piano player having played for so many years, and love it almost as much as I love listening.
I spend a large portion of my day listening to music, which will consist of anything I like the sound of, though my favourites at the moment lie somewhere between folk, classic pop punk and country music. When I'm home I listen through speakers, though up until recently, I had put up with listening to music on the go through a pair of fairly crappy in-ear headphones, and I'm not really sure why. After Christmas I decided it was time to treat myself to a decent pair, and not being particularly knowledgeable when it comes to sound technology and drivers, went for a relatively cheap pair that I liked the look of. I found these Philips CitiScape Shibuya Headband Headphones on offer on amazon for £14.42 (which they still are by the way!), and am so pleased that I did.
I wasn't sure what to expect for the price, but can report that these headphones have done everything I wanted and more. They are sleek and stylish, reminiscent of much more expensive pairs available in high street fashion stores. They fit my rather small head and ears too, I've tried on so many pairs in the past that just look giant when I'm wearing them. They are sturdy enough to sling in my handbag during the day. The padded parts that go over your ears (technical term!) are super soft and comfy and have the wonderful added feature on keeping your ears warm on chilly days. They cancel noise beautifully and mean I can enjoy my tunes on the most noisy and crowded of buses. The cable features a mic too, great for when I'm listening to music through my phone and receive a call.
Now the most important feature, obviously, is the sound. Now I'm not an expert in the slightest, so I can't say much more than these sound pretty good. The sound is clear, crisp and well balanced. Bass heavy tracks sound great too, the sound comes out very well, something a lot of headphones can be lacking in. For the price, they are absolutely fantastic and a much higher quality than I would expect for such an affordable pair. If you're looking for a great starter pair of headphones, they I couldn't recommend these more!
Here's a little playlist of some tunes I've been loving recently:

Leave me a little message below with your favourite songs of the moment too please, I love finding new tunes!

  1. Great post! These headphones are so cute and at such a great price too. I definitely will look into them to see if I can purchase them because my ear buds hurt my ears after a little while. I love learning about new songs, and my favorite recently has been Kodaline's cover of Latch by Disclosure, sooooo good :)
