Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm in 205 - Elusive - £7.99
Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm in 250 - Standout - £7.99
It's always nice when something new comes along in the beauty world, and recently we've been spoiled for choice! One release I was particularly excited about was Revlon's new Colorburst Matte Balms. A recent matte lip convert, my beautiful Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil (read more here) has become an every day staple, but an expensive one at that. Hearing a considerably cheaper option was on the way, I couldn't wait to give them a go. I picked up two shades in Boots, Elusive (205) - a creamy pink, and Standout (250) - a dark but strong red. They look a little different on than in the pencil so I've included a swatch of each.
Elusive looks very rosy in the pencil but comes out as a lovely pale yet dusky pink. Standout is a very vibrant red with dark pink undertones, not something I would usually ever pick out for myself but a colour I am starting to love, it makes such a fun everyday choice. The application is positively dreamy, the chubby pencils glide on, the point allows for precise edges while the sides fill in the lip quickly and smoothly. They have a sort of buttery texture to them that is surprisingly moisturising, with a slight minty flavour which I find rather pleasant. The colour does dry out to a matte texture but stays soft, something I wasn't expecting. The longevity doesn't quite live up to the Nars pencils, but these are so easy to apply, it's not really a big issue. They twist up too, so there's no faffing about with sharpeners either. At £7.99 they aren't the cheapest lip product on the shelves, but have such a rich pigment and fab colours, and have left me keen to try out some more!
