Right now, I'm feeling pretty proud of myself.
Last month, after weeks (months? Years?) of procrastinating, I got off my backside and joined a gym. I've been meaning to do it for such a long time but have either been too lazy or too nervous to get on and do it, but I finally did it!
The whole thing was fairly terrifying, but I signed onto a gym with a rolling contract so thankfully it didn't feel like I was signing my life away. The gym is also open 24 hours which is pretty great news for insomniacs like me, as it means there is somewhere else open at 3am that isn't McDonalds. Having never been to a gym before in my life, I was fairly nervous as you can imagine, expecting to be stared at as I walked in or laughed at for not knowing how to switch on a cross trainer, but you know what? It was absolutely fine. The staff were lovely and helpful, and everyone else in there is just like you, doing their own thing and really couldn't care less about what you are up to. I just wanted to share this in case you are new like me and feeling the same way!
Obviously though it's totally worth it for the health benefits. I'm feeling better in myself already and beginning to notice little changes to my more wobbly bits and generally starting feeling a little tighter and brighter! If you're one the fence about starting out, I'd really think about just giving it a go, because A) what have you got to lose? and B) You might just enjoy it!
As well as the obvious benefits, perhaps my favourite thing has been the excuse to buy new workout gear! Turns out I love gym clothes shopping perhaps even more than I love regular shopping. Getting yourself a cute little matching outfit not only is fun to do, but makes you feel good when you turn up to the gym and feel comfortable and happy in what you're wearing.
My current kit consists of my 'I Run Cause I Like Cake' tee, a Nike Sports Bra, Nike Dry-Fit 3/4 length Yoga Leggings, my Fitbit Flex, a whole load of deodorant and my favourite pink Nike (kids) running shoes. I absolutely love the top as it's not too tight, I'm happy to run in tight trousers but I like a bit of flexibility in my arms and torso in the gym. Plus, it's totally true, and with the added bonus of it's pretty cute too! It's from New Look, who have actually recently launched a really gorgeous sportswear range.
I'm still relatively new to the whole fitness thing so I'm going to share my progress as I go on here. If you have any tips, I'd love for you to share them!
